Louisiana held a special election Saturday to fill a vacancy in District 47 of the Louisiana House of Representatives. The vacancy was created when Jonathan Perry (R) was elected to the Louisiana State Senate in the District 26 special election on February 19, 2011. Two Republicans, Linda Hardee and Bob Hensgens, competed for Perry's vacated seat. Hensgens, the current Mayor of Gueydan, Louisiana, defeated Hardee by a 52% to 48% margin.[1][2] A run-off had been scheduled, but since only two candidates qualified, no run-off will be necessary.
Partisan impact
Hensgens replaced Jonathan Perry, a fellow Republican, so his election will not change the partisan makeup of the house.
