The Horicon School District Referendum was a school bond measure on the April 7 ballot in the Horicon School District which is in Dodge County. The referendum was brought to the ballot by the school board, and it sought to exceed state-set revenue limits by $300,000. The additional funds would have been used to maintain current levels of operations. The measure failed to pass.

Status

Defeated, with 822 "no" votes to 505 "yes" votes.[1][2]

Tax impact

This referendum would increase property tax on a $100,000 home by $32.58.[3]

Wording of referendum

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET TO EXCEED REVENUE LIMIT TO MEET OPERATING COSTS FOR ONE YEAR. BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of the School District of Horicon, Dodge County, Wisconsin, that the revenues included in the School District budget for the 2009-10 school year be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $300,000.00 for the purposes of maintaining instructional programs and to meet the operating expenses of the district. The purpose of this resolution is non-recurring as it will only be authorized for one year.[2]
