Human Life of Washington (HLF) is a political organization in Washington that opposes assisted suicide. In May 2008, the organization filed a federal lawsuit with the assistance of the James Madison Center for Free Speech, based in Indiana; the lawsuit asserted that HLW should not have to file financial disclosures with the Public Disclosure Commission if it runs radio ads expressing its opposition to assisted suicide.

Initiative 1000, a measure that allows assisted suicide, is currently collecting signatures to qualify for the November 2008 ballot.

According to HLF, its ads would not mention I-1000 specifically but would be generic ads expressing opposition to assisted suicide. Christian Sinderman, who consults with the I-1000 campaign, said that the idea that the ads aren't about I-1000 "doesn't pass the straight-face test."
