INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana: On Monday, March 26, the Franklin Township School Board voted 5-0 to approve a debt-refinancing plan, thus ending the district's pay-to-ride school bus service. The pay-to-ride service was implemented last fall when the district passed the busing on to a non-profit which began charging parents $47.50 per month. The change started causing problems almost immediately with many parents deciding to drive their children to school, or in at least one case, deciding to sue the district. However, school administration is hopeful the new refinancing plan is a better solution than last year's cuts, Superintendent Walter Bourke said, "We have taken the first steps to solve our property-tax problems. The future is bright."
