 Iowa Director of Education Jason Glass By Greg Janetka
DES MOINES, Iowa: Jason Glass, who has served as Iowa Director of Education for over two years, is one of three finalists for superintendent of the Eagle County School District in Colorado. Glass previously served as director of human resources for the school district from 2007 to 2010. He left Colorado after Gov. Terry Branstad (R) named him as Iowa's education director in December 2010.[1]
The current Eagle County superintendent, Sandra Smyser, is leaving to take over the Poudre School District. Glass said of the opportunity, “We have long-standing ties and connections to the community and the school district. I'm honored that I'm going to be considered.” The other two candidates in the running are David Johnson, a superintendent in Wisconsin and Karen Brofft, an assistant superintendent in Colorado.[2]
A final decision is scheduled to be announced on May 22. If Glass gets the job his salary will increase from his current $147,000 as director of education to $175,000.[2]
Glass is one of 37 appointed state superintendent of schools. The position is elected in 13 states.
