The Iowa Immigration Question did not appear on the 2013 ballot in the state of Iowa as a legislative referral. The measure would have allowed authorities in the state to check the immigration status of those they deemed suspicious. A citizens group tried to collect 200,000 signatures in order to get lawmakers to place the law on the ballot. The group, according to reports, was called the Minutemen Patriots. Petitions were sent to 81 counties in the state. The legislative session began in January 2011.[1]
