Rep. Peter Cownie

Des Moines, Iowa: As of this month, Iowa Representative Peter Cownie (R) of West Des Moines has announced he will run for a third term next year.[1]

Cownie issued this statement to the press, "Too often state government has laid heavy burdens on Iowa’s small businesses. With increased government regulation, job creators are hindered in their ability to grow and hire. I will continue working to find ways to get government out of the way, while protecting Iowa taxpayers, so our economy can continue to move in the right direction."[1]

Cownie, 31, is the president of Junior Achievement of Central Iowa, a non-profit committed to educating students in finances and economics. He is also the chairman of the House State Government Committee and a member of the House Education and Ways and Means committees. He was first elected in November 2008, and re-elected in November 2010.

Iowa Representatives are elected for two years and are not term limited.
