Italian Government Official Impediment Legislation Referendum, 2011
An Italian Government Official Impediment Legislation Referendum was held in the country on June 12-13. The Referendum will ask citizens to vote of three different issues.
Preliminary results show this measure was defeated meaning the legislation will not be implemented.
This measure would have enacted legislation which would have made it illegal for a official currently serving in the government to be subject to a criminal trial. Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is currently involved in four criminal trials and this legislation would have gotten him out of those trials. The trials deal with fraud and corruption claims against Berlusconi, as well as accusations of paying for sex from an underage prostitute.
