Westwood earned his BA in English from the University of Kentucky in 1966. He went on to receive his MA in Education from Northern Kentucky University in 1980.
Westwood was an English/Journalism Teacher for Lloyd High School from 1966 to 1993. He then worked as a Photographer for Photogenesis from 1987 to 1995. He is currently a Hardware Salesman.

Westwood announced in August 2011 that he would not be seeking re-election in 2012. He stated, “I don’t have any specific reasons not to (run again). A lot of people object to having career politicians. It was never my intention to be there for 16 years.”[1]
2008
On November 4, 2008, Westwood was re-elected to the 23rd District Seat in the Kentucky State Senate, defeating Kathy Groob (D).[2] Westwood raised $509,585 for his campaign, while Groob raised $522,687.[3]
