Jackson County Charter Adoption (August 2010)

A Jackson County Charter Adoption measure was on the August 3, 2010 ballot in Jackson County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 27,399 Approveda
  • NO 18,067[1]

This measure asked voters if they wanted to adopt the newly revised county charter as submitted to the county clerk.[2] Some of the changes included on the new charter were limiting the powers of the executive branch and also that of legislative powers. The new charter will require the legislature to fill a vacant executive position within 30 days and executive will not be able to award no bid contracts over $5,000.[3]

Proposed by the County Legislature Pursuant to Ordinance #4210 Shall the Jackson County Charter adopted by vote on November 3, 1970, and as amended in public vote on August 8, 1978, April 2, 1985, November 4, 1986 and August 2, 1994 be repealed and the Proposed 2010 Jackson County Charter, as filed in final form on May 25, 2010 with the Clerk of the County Legislature, be enacted in lieu thereof as the 2010 Jackson County Charter?
