A Jacksonville City Fire Department Levy Cap measure was on the May 18, 2010 ballot in the city of Jacksonville which is in Jackson County.

This measure was defeated

  • YES 472 (41.99%)
  • NO 652 (58.01%)Defeatedd[1]

This measure sought to place a cap on the surcharge of the district and put in place a levy of $1.29 per $1,000 of assessed property. This cap would have been in place for a further five years and would have made it so the surcharge would not go above $20.[2] The current rate, the $20 surcharge, was noted by fire fighter officials as not enough to fund the department and thus they asked for the additional property tax. Local residents though had come out against the additional tax saying that they cannot afford any more taxes, regardless of the services the fire department gives.[3]
