In 1986, Anderson was appointed by then Governor George Wallace for a five-year term as chairman of the Alabama Ethics Commission. Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley later appointed Anderson as a member of the State Personnel Board and the State Employees Insurance Board.
Controversies
Christianity comment
Speaking at a Cherokee County Democratic Club luncheon on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, Anderson "said he didn't understand how a person can claim to be both a Christian and a Republican." [2] Though the Montgomery attorney insists it was simply a joke, he has drawn the ire of the State Republican Party who argue the State Attorney General candidate has stooped to a new low in questioning the Christianity of all those who vote or support Republicans.
