Legislation
Cunningham sponsored SB54, a law designed to protect students from sexual abuse from their teachers. Among the more controversial parts of the bill was section 162.069 which states, "Teachers also cannot have a nonwork-related website that allows exclusive access with a current or former student." This makes it a crime for teachers to have a current or former student under the age of 18 as a friend on a social networking site such as Facebook. There has been much objection to this part of the bill by teachers. The bill was recently signed into law by governor Jay Nixon.[6]
Personal
Cunningham and her husband Gary have two children.
