Jason Frerichs is a Democratic member of the South Dakota State Senate, representing District 1. Frerichs was elected to the South Dakota State Senate in 2010. Frerichs also served in the South Dakota State House of Representatives from 2009 to 2011. During this time, he served as Minority Whip. He currently serves as Minority Leader.

Frerichs earned his BS in Agriculture Education from South Dakota State University in 2007. He went on to receive International Agriculture Experience from South Dakota State University's College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences in 2008.

In 2001 Frerichs worked as a Page for the United States Senate. He is currently a farmer/rancher and teacher in the Agriculture Department of Lake Area Technical Institute.

Frerichs won re-election in the 2012 election for South Dakota State Senate District 1. He was unopposed in both the Democratic primary on June 5 and the general election on November 6.[1]

Frerichs did not run for re-election to District 1 of the South Dakota House of Representatives in order to run for South Dakota State Senate.[2] Frerichs was unopposed in the election, which took place on November 2, 2010.
