Jefferson County Sales Tax Increase (November 2010)

A Jefferson County Sales Tax Increase measure was on the November 2, 2010 ballot in Jefferson County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 9,249 (56.28%)Approveda
  • NO 7,186 (43.72%)[1]

This measure sought to add an additional .3 percent to the local sales taxes, increasing the total tax to 8.7 percent.[2] Forty percent of the money generated from the sales tax will go towards the city of Port Townsend and the rest will go towards the county's budget shortfalls which are expected in 2011. Funding public services such as police and fire will also be part of where the additional funds will go.[3]

Public hearings were held in Port Townsend and in other parts of the county to educate voters on the issue, the needs of the county and what the money would be used for if this is approved.[4]
