Jefferson County Table Games Referendum was on the December 5 ballot in Jefferson County for county voters. The referendum called for voters to decide whether table games should be permitted at Charles Town Races & Slots.[1]

This referendum passed

  • YES6279 Approveda
  • NO 4343 [2]

Previously, in 2007, a referendum that proposed installing poker tables, roulette wheels and other games was defeated. But now, John Finamore, senior vice president of Penn National Gaming Inc. regional operations, said, "We've seen some very positive signs that tell us the county seems to be genuinely excited." If approved, the table games are expected to create as many as 500 new jobs. According to official records the area is said to have an unemployment rate of 8.3 percent in June 2009. The games are also expected to generate approximately $6.4 million, $4 million of which will go directly to county schools.[3]
