Jerry Garza was a 2014 candidate for Mayor of Laredo, Texas. He was previously a 2012 Democratic candidate for District 80 of the Texas House of Representatives. Garza was a member of the Webb County Board of Commissioners from 2005-2012.[1]


Garza holds a B.A. in political science from Texas A&M International University and an M.A. in Communications and Applied Politics from Saint Mary's University. His professional experience includes owning his own insurance company and working as a financial adviser.[1]

The city of Laredo, Texas held elections for mayor on November 4, 2014. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was August 18, 2014.[2] Candidates included Guadalupe Botello, Rolando S. Herrera, Jose S. Dorantes Jr., Pete Saenz, James Joel Newland, Cindy Liendo and Jerry Garza. Pete Saenz was the winner. Incumbent Raul G. Salinas was ineligible to run for re-election due to term limits.[3][4]
