Jim Hughes (b. September 17, 1964) has been a Republican member of the Ohio Senate since 2008, representing the 16th district.

Education

Hughes earned his BS in Transportation/Logistics from Ohio State University. He then received his BS in Business Administration. He went on to earn his JD from Capital University Law School in 1994.

Professional experience

Hughes was a Law Clerk for Franklin County Prosecutor's Office from 1982 to 1987. He worked as a House Page for Minority Leader Honorable Corwin Nixon in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1983 to 1985. He then worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant for Ohio State University from 1987 to 1988. From 1988 to 1995 he was Bailiff/Court Constable for the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. Hughes worked as an Assistant City Prosecutor for the City Prosecutor's Office from 1995 to 1997. He has worked as an Assistant County Prosecutor for the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office since 1997.

Political experience

Hughes served in the Ohio State House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008. He joined the Ohio State Senate in 2008. He has served in that position since, representing the 16th district.
