Pomeroy was on the staff at the Dakotas Area Program for United Methodist Church from 1968 to 1975. He then worked as District Superintendent for the Central District of the United Methodist Church from 1979 to 1984. He was also Senior Pastor for United Methodist Church from 1959 to 2002.
Pomeroy earned his B.S. in Divinity from North Dakota State University in 1958. He then received his MDiv from Drew Theological School at Drew University in 1961. He went on to earn his DMin from McCormick Theological School in 1980.
While a member of the North Dakota State Senate, Pomeroy served on the following committees:

Pomeroy did not seek re-election in 2010.
On November 7, 2006, Pomeroy was elected to the 27th District Seat in the North Dakota State Senate, besting Richard Brown (R). Pomeroy raised $1,800 for his campaign, while Brown raised $5,225.
