Puckett worked as a teller at Renasant Bank of Amory from 2002-2007, and a teacher at Aberdeen Public Schools from 1973-2002. He earned his Masters and Bachelors from Mississippi State University, and Associates from Itawamba Junior College.
Prior to joining the House, Puckett was Amory Election Commissioner from 2003-2007, and a member of the Democratic Executive Committee Board in Monroe County from 1995-2007.[1]

2011
Puckett ran in the 2011 election for Mississippi House of Representatives District 20. He ran unopposed in the August 2 primary, but was defeated by Chris Brown (R) in the November 8 general election. [2]
Puckett was one of six incumbents that the Mississippi TEA Party’s Move the House Committee specifically targeted as needing to be defeated in order to gain conservative control of the House.[3]

On November 6, 2007 Puckett was elected in District 20, defeating Republican candidate Chris Brown. He defeated Robert Mitchell and David Whitaker in the primary election.
