An effort to recall JoAnn Faiella from her position as mayor of Port St. Lucie, Florida, was launched in August 2012.[1] The recall effort was abandoned in September 2012.[2]

Reasons for recall

Kurt Hoyer filed the recall petition. The recall petition alleged that Faiella is "incompetent" and "incapable of performing her duties." Hoyer said, "I think she's in over her head. Nothing personal, but she doesn't take criticism and doesn't work and play well with others."[1]

Path to the ballot

To move forward with the recall campaign, recall organizers would have needed to submit 4,951 signatures by September 12. However, after gathering roughly 3,500 signatures, recall organizers failed to move past the first phase of the recall. If the first phase had been successful, recall organizers would have been given 30 days to collect an additional 14,853 signatures.[1]
