Joanne Dowdell was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 1st Congressional District of New Hampshire.


Between 1989 and 2002, Dowdell worked in the DC area for Congressional Quarterly and FDA News. In 2003, she moved to Portsmouth, New Hampshire to become Vice President and Director of Corporate Responsibility for Citizens Advisers. From 2008 through 2010, Dowdell was the Senior Vice President and Director of Corporate Responsibility for the Sentinel Financial Services Company in Montpelier, Vermont. She started running for office in 2011.[1]

Dowdell was running in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing New Hampshire's 1st District. Her name no longer appears on the official candidate list.[2]

The Washington Post listed the House of Representatives elections in New Hampshire in 2012 as 1 of the 10 states that could determine whether Democrats retake the House or Republican holds its majority in 2013.[3] New Hampshire ranked 10th on the list.[3]
