He spent his professional career as a teacher. He first worked in Stroudsburg and Pleasant Valley school districts before teaching in the Lower Moreland School District for the next 14 years. Additionally, he has served on the Board of Supervisors for the Upper Nazareth Township and eventually became chairman.
Emrick earned his bachelor's degree in History and Secondary Education from Lycoming College and his master's degree in Education from Kutztown University.

Emrick ran in the 2012 election for Pennsylvania House District 137. Emrick ran unopposed in the Republican primary on April 24 and defeated Joseph Capozzolo in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012. [1][2]

Emrick defeated Donald Albanese in the May 18 Republican primary and defeated Democrat Charles Dertinger in the November 2 general election.[3]
