Joe McDermott is a Washington state senator, currently serving the 34th district.[1] He is serving his first elected-term after having been appointed to the seat in October 2007. McDermott is a member of the Democratic Party and resides in West Seattle where he lives with his partner, Michael.
Education
McDermott earned his BA in History/Political Science from Gonzaga University. He went on to earn his MPA in Public Administration from the University of Washington.
Professional experience
McDermott has worked as an instructor for South Seattle Community College. He has also worked as Senior Budget Analyst for the Seattle School District. He is a member of the staff of Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney, John Ladenburg.
Political experience
McDermott served in the Washington State House of Representatives from 2001 to the present. He is currently the Majority Education Policy Leader, as well as the Assistant Majority Floor Leader for the house. He was appointed to the senate in 2007 and currently serves in that position.
