He was defeated by incumbent Allyson Schwartz.[2]

Rooney ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Pennsylvania's 13th District. Rooney was uncontested in the April 24, 2012 Republican primary and faced incumbent Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D) in the November 6, 2012 general election.[3]
The Washington Post listed the House of Representatives elections in Pennsylvania in 2012 as one of the states that could determine whether Democrats would retake the House or Republicans would hold their majority in 2013.[4] Ohio tied with Pennsylvania for 9th on the list.[4]

Rooney and his wife Beth have five children - Sierra, Orion, Journey, Sonora, and Forte. The Rooneys spent five years sailing 15,000 miles from the Delaware to Malaysia. For two of those years, they lived in Indonesia and Malaysia.
