Joel K. Barr is an inmate at Arizona State Prison-Florence, in Special Management Unit I - one of the state's maximum security units.

Criminal history

Barr befriended a girl in his neighborhood who was 10 or 12 years old and pretended to be a journalist looking for grammatical errors in an article, but he was actually showing her pornography. This went on for about a year before Barr was arrested in 2003.

He defended himself at trial and refused any plea bargain offer.

He was convicted of one count of child molestation, two counts of furnishing obscene material to a minor and 121 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Petitioning in Prison

Since then Barr has filed 5 petitions with the Arizona Secretary of State, none of which made it to the ballot.
