Caramanna was a candidate for the 2011 Democratic Party nomination for District 4 of the New Jersey General Assembly. Incumbent Paul Moriarty and Gabriela Mosquera are running in the June 7 Democratic primary. The top-two voter getters will advance to the general election on November 8, 2011.[2]

With redistricting moving Republican incumbent Domenick DiCicco to the 3rd District, NJ Spotlight has identified the 4th as a potential place for the Democrats to pickup a seat in the Assembly.[3]
