Courson was State Chair/State Co-Chair/Treasurer for United States Senator Strom Thurmond. He was also a volunteer for the Reagan and Bush Campaigns.
Courson served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He is the former Executive Vice President for Keenan Insurance and Financial Services, Incorporated. He is currently the Senior Vice President of Keenan & Suggs Insurance Agency.
Courson graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1968.
