2012
Deffenbaugh ran in the 2012 election for Georgia House of Representatives District 1. Deffenbaugh ran against Mike Nowlin and Alan Painter in the Republican primary on July 31, 2012. Thomas McMahan ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. Deffenbaugh and Alan Painter faced off in a runoff election on August 21, 2012.[3] The runoff primary between Deffenbaugh and Painter remained too close to call initially.[4] The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[1][7][8]
In the runoff primary, Painter was defeated by Deffenbaugh.[9] Deffenbaugh won in the general election.[10]
