An effort to recall John Sullivan from his position as mayor of Cape Coral, Florida, was launched in August 2011. The effort did not result in a recall election.
Background
The recall was reported to be organized by Cape Coral's police and fire unions. According to Mark Muerth, head of the fire union: "We've had enough and now we're just trying to determine if the public's had enough." Muerth also stated that both unions would research to get a feel if enough support was out there to recall Sullivan.[1]
Path to the ballot
To initiate a recall election, at least 5 percent of the voting population, or roughly 4,500 people, would have need to sign a petition.[1]
