John Thornton is a Texas donor who is funding the Texas Tribune.[1]

Background

John Thornton is the founder of the Texas Tribune, the nonprofit, nonpartisan public media organization. He is also a General Partner at Austin Ventures, a Texas-based venture capital firm focusing on software investing and firm strategy. Previously, John was with McKinsey & Co., where he served clients in the U.S. and Europe.[2]

John received his M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and his B.A. summa cum laude from Trinity University, where he graduated first in his class. He is a current advisory board member of Ballet Austin and The Harry Ransom Center, a founding board member of the Entrepreneur's Foundation, and a former trustee of both Trinity University and the Austin Museum of Art.[3]
