|South Carolina House of Representatives District 1|
|Bachelor's||Wesleyan University (1981)|
|Master's||Candler School of Theology at Emory University (2007)|
Hester previously worked for Electronic Data Systems, and currently works at the Tennessee Conference of the United Methodist Church.
In the information submitted to Ballotpedia, Hester outlined the political philosophy behind his campaign:
I believe that politics in South Carolina has become corrupted by money and by too much power in a single political party. I want to restore balance to the General Assembly in Columbia so that our government will get back to serving the interests of its citizens. I believe a society is best judged by how it treats its least powerful members, and I would like to restore that ideal.
Hester ran in the 2012 election for South Carolina House of Representatives District 1. He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 12. Incumbent Bill Whitmire (R) was slated to run against John Dalen in the Republican primary, but that primary was canceled due to Dalen's disqualification. The general election took place on November 6, 2012. Hester was defeated in the general election.
