Sesso is a former member of the Montana House of Representatives, representing the 76th District since 2005. In the 2011-2012 session, Sesso served as the Minority Leader.[1]
Sesso's professional experience includes working as the following; planning director and superfund coordinator at Butte-Silver Bow; program director at Natural Resource Information System, Montana State Library; and technical writer, information director, and vice president of operations at National Center for Appropriate Technology.
Sesso earned his MA in communications and environmental studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1978 and his BA in communications from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1975.

Sesso won re-election in the 2012 election for Montana State Senate, District 37. Sesso ran unopposed in the June 5 primary election and defeated Daniel O'Neill (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
