Oja ran for Lieutenant Governor of Montana in 2012 on an independent ticket with retired Marine Colonel Bill Coate. They faced Republicans Rick Hill and Jon Sonju, Democrats Steve Bullock and John E. Walsh, and Libertarians Ron Vandevender and Marc Mulcahy in the general election on November 6, 2012.[2]
