[1]
This measure sought to implement a sales tax in the city at a rate of one-sixth of one cent in order to be used by the Joplin Memorial Hall to be converted into a museum. The city proposed to convert the hall into a museum, this tax would help by adding near $7 million to the project's budget. The museum proposed this measure because it would have added space to the current museum complex and would enable the museum to take items out of storage and display them.[2]
