Zakas was a candidate for the United States Congress in 1996. He joined the Indiana State Senate in 1982 and has served in that position since. He is currently Senate Majority Whip, representing the 11th district.
Zakas has been an attorney for Thorne, Grodnik, Limited Liability Partnership since 1990.
Zakas earned his BA from the University of Illinois in 1972. He went on to receive his MBA and JD from the University of Notre Dame in 1980.
