Burges previously represented the 4th District from her appointment on January 23, 2012 until the district became the 22nd district. She previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives, representing the 4th District from 2005 until her appointment to the Senate in 2012.
Burges previously worked as an account clerk with the Yavapai County Government from 1984-1996 and as a budget coordinator with the Cyprus Begdad Copper Company from 1976-1981.
She is a board member of the Skull Valley Historical Society, and previously served as Treasurer of the Citizen's Tax Committee, Board Member of Habitat for Humanity, and Board Member of State Safety Program.[1]

Burges won election in the 2012 election for Arizona State Senate District 22. She ran unopposed in the August 28, 2012, Republican primary. She won the general election on November 6, 2012.[2][3]

2010
Burges won re-election to the 4th district seat in 2010. She and Jack Harper won the August 24 primary election. They then defeated Democrat Karina Guerrero in the November 2 general election.[4][5]

On November 4, 2008, Burges and Tom Boone were elected to the 4th District Seat in the Arizona House of Representatives, defeating opponents Sue Dolphin (D) and Paula S. Forster (D).[6]
Burges raised $35,371 for the campaign, Boone raised $38,171, Dolphin raised $35,401, and Forster raised $35,134.[7]
