Melendez is a native Floridian. He was born on Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida on Dec. 30, 1977.[2]

Melendez ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Florida's 9th District. Melendez sought the nomination on the Republican ticket. [3] The primary elections were held on August 14, 2012. Melendez was defeated by Todd Long in the Republican primary on August 14, 2012.[1]
