Friedrichsen has served as an intern in the U.S. House of Representatives and a clerk in the Iowa House of Representatives. She has worked for Iowa Workforce Development in Des Moines and Denison and is as an active member of AFSCME.
Friedrichsen ran in the 2012 election for Iowa House of Representatives District 18. Friedrichsen defeated Bernard Murphy in the Democratic primary on June 5, 2012. She was defeated by District 55 incumbent Jason Schultz (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.
