Peterson ran for President of the Alabama Public Service Commission in 2012. She faced Twinkle Cavanaugh and Chip Brown in the Republican primary on March 13. Peterson was defeated, while Cavanaugh and Brown faced a runoff election on April 24.[2] Incumbent Lucy Baxley was unopposed for the Democratic nomination. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.
