Biography
A native of Nebraska, Schmidt is a 2005 graduate of the National Institute for Public Finance at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.[1]

Political Career
North Dakota Treasurer (2005-Present)
Schmidt was first elected in 2004 and re-elected in 2008 and 2012. In 2011, she was elected President of the National Association of State Treasurers. She has also been recognized as a "Toll Fellow" by the Council on State Governments in 2009 for her work in state government.[2]

Schmidt won re-election in 2012. She ran unopposed in the primary election and defeated Democrat Ross Mushik in the general election.[3][4]
