Kenneth Stanton "Ken" Calvert (b. June 8, 1953) is a Republican member of the U.S. House representing California's 44th congressional district. Calvert was first elected to the House in 1992.

Calvert is running for re-election in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing California's 42nd District as a Republican. He was displaced from his current district, the 44th by redistricting.[1] The open primary election will take place on June 5, 2012.

Based on an analysis of bill sponsorship by GovTrack, Calvert is a "far-right Republican".[2]

Biography

Calvert was born in Corona, California. He earned an A.A. from Chaffey College in 1973, and a B.A. from San Diego State University in 1975.[3]

A Washington Post investigation in February 2012 revealed that 33 members of Congress helped direct more than $300 million in earmarks to public projects in close proximity to commercial and residential real estate owned by the lawmakers or their family members.[9] According to the report, Calvert helped secure $1.2 million for the Corona Transit Center. The project is near seven of Calvert's rental properties.[10]

Calvert is running for re-election in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing California's 42nd District as a Republican. He was displaced from his current district, the 44th by redistricting. He is running against Michael Williamson (D), Cliff Smith (D), Eva Johnson (R), Clayton Thibodeau (R), and Curt Novak (Ind) in the June 5, 2012, open primary.[11]

On November 2, 2010, Calvert won re-election to the United States House. He defeated Bill Hedrick (D) in the general election.[12]
