Jones is a graduate of the Missouri Highway Patrol Academy and earned his BA in Agriculture from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He has served as a Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper and Sheriff of Moniteau Country.
Jones is an Elder at the First Christian Church of California of the Lions Club and Masonic Lodge, and Vice President of the Missouri Sheriffs Retirement Board.
