Kent Sorenson (b. March 29, 1972) is a Republican member of the Iowa State Senate, representing District 13 since 2013. He previously represented District 37 from 2011 to 2013. Before his winning his Senate seat, Sorenson served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2009 to 2011.

Sorenson is Owner/Operator of Pro-Kleen Maintenance, a soccer coach, and a volunteer fire fighter.[1]

Kent Sorenson endorsed Ron Paul in the 2012 presidential election. [2] Sorenson originally endorsed Michele Bachmann[3] and was serving as the state Chairman of her campaign in Iowa prior to endorsing Paul. Sorenson made the announcement at a rally for Paul on December 28, 2011, stating, "I believe we're at a turning point in this campaign. I thought it was my duty to come to his aid, just like he came to my aid during my Senate race, which was a very nasty race."[4]

Sorenson did not run for re-election to House district 74 in 2010, but instead ran successfully for the 37th State Senate district seat.

Sorenson defeated Democratic incumbent Staci Appel by a margin of 16,748 to 11,646 in the November 2 general election. [5]
