The
Treasurer of the State of Kentucky is an elected executive official in the
Kentucky state government. The
treasurer is the chief financial officer of the government of Kentucky, responsible for maintaining the state funds and acting as the state's bank.
Current officeholder
The current treasurer of Kentucky is Todd Hollenbach (D). He is the 37th state treasurer, was elected in 2007 and re-elected in 2011.
Authority
The office of state treasurer is established in the Executive Department Article of the Kentucky Constitution.
Executive Department Article, Section 91:

| A Treasurer, Auditor of Public Accounts, Commissioner of Agriculture, Labor and Statistics, Secretary of State, and Attorney-General, shall be elected by the qualified voters of the State at the same time the Governor and Lieutenant Governor are elected, for the term of four years...

Qualifications
Executive Department Article, Section 91 of the Kentucky Constitution establishes the qualifications of the office:

| ...each of whom shall be at least thirty years of age at the time of his election, and shall have been a resident citizen of the State at least two years next before his election.
|

Elections
Up until 1851, the governor appointed the Treasurer with the advice and consent of the Kentucky State Legislature. The 1850 Constitution made the treasurer an elected office serving a two-year term. In 1891 this was extended to four-years.[1]
For the state of Kentucky, treasurer election years include 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019. According to state law, the inauguration always takes place the
first Monday in January following their election.

Division of Unclaimed Property
- The Division of Unclaimed Property works to find taxpayers who are owed money from the unclaimed property fund. This usually consists of payroll checks, unclaimed safety deposit boxes and vendor checks.

In 2012, the Kentucky State Treasurer was paid an estimated $113,615. This figure comes from the Council of State Governments.
Former officeholders
From 1792 to 1992, there were 33 Kentucky State Treasurers. Three of them served more than one non-consecutive term. The constitutional prohibition against succeeding oneself was eliminated in 1992 in exchange for a two term limit.[1]
