Campaign themes

Parsons' website highlighted the following campaign themes:[3]

  • Gun Rights: "The Bill of Rights expressly guarantees each and every lawful American citizen the right to keep and bear arms. I will guard law-abiding Tennesseans’ right to keep and own firearms."
  • Jobs: "Eliminate excessive government regulations and red tape on small businesses and employers."
  • Education: "Equip our students with the academic tools and training they require to be competitive in today’s job market."
  • Taxes: "Tennesseans work hard for the money they earn, and they should be entitled to keep more of it. When the government takes money out of individuals’ pockets, it does so at the expense of all working men and women. Further reducing taxes will also give small businesses more money to expand and create new jobs."
  • Illegal immigration: "Maintain the ban on issuing driver’s licenses to illegal aliens Require employers to verify the citizenship status of their employees Ensure state and local police agencies notify federal immigration authorities when they believe an arrested criminal is an illegal alien."
  • Values: "Cut all state funding to Planned Parenthood. Maintain the traditional definition of marriage. Uphold the freedom of student religious groups to organize freely in schools. Better regulate food and income entitlements being given to individuals and families to give more support to those who actually need it."[4]
