Biography
Smith served in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 1996-1998. He then went on to work for former U.S. Senator Bob Smith and New Hampshire Gov. Craig Benson. Smith served in the governor's office for two years as liaison to the Executive Branch Department Heads and the Executive Council.
In 2005, Smith was appointed to New Hampshire's Division for Juvenile Justice Services. Afterwards he went on to serve three years as Executive Director of Cornerstone Action, a conservative advocacy organization.[2]

Smith was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 1996 and served until 1998.[3]
Elections
2014
Following his defeat by Ovide Lamontagne in the 2012 Republican gubernatorial primary, Smith is considering another bid for Governor of New Hampshire in 2014.[4]
2012
Smith was seeking the Republican nomination for Governor of New Hampshire in the 2012 elections. The primary election was held on September 11, 2012 and the general election is scheduled for November 6, 2012. Smith was defeated by Ovide Lamontagne in the Republican primary on Setpember 11, 2012.[5]
When asked why he was running, Smith stated, "As Governor, I have a practical, but bold plan to bring more high-paying and sustainable jobs to the state, spur economic development, reduce our high health care and energy costs, and retain more of our young workers after they finish school by creating more job opportunities for them here in our own state. I have the vision, energy, and experience to see this plan through and will work with all of our citizens to lead our state into a new era of prosperity, and make New Hampshire into the envy of the nation."[6]

Smith lives in Litchfield with his wife, Suzy, and their three children.[7]
