The Kiel Area School District Referendum was a school bond measure on the April 7 ballot in the Kiel Area School District which is in both Calumet and Manitowoc Counties. The referendum was brought to the ballot by the school board, and it sought to exceed state-set revenue limits by $650,000 per year over seven years. The additional funds would be used to maintain current levels of operations. Voters approved a similar measure in 1999, which is set to expire in 2009. The current measure seeks to replace those expiring funds.[1]
In 2008, the Kiel Area School District put three referenda on the ballot, all of which were defeated. You can read about them here, here and here.
Status
Defeated, with 887 "yes" votes and 928 "no" votes.[2]
Wording of referendum
BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of the Kiel Area School District, Manitowoc, Calumet and Sheboygan Counties, Wisconsin that the revenues included in the School District budget for seven years beginning in the 2009/2010 school year and ending in the 2015/2016 school year be authorized to exceed the revenue limit specified in Section 121.91, Wisconsin Statutes, by $650,000 a year, for non-recurring purposes consisting of continuing and expanding upon the programs and projects previously approved in April, 1999 which include supporting technology improvements and increased maintenance and operational expenses.[2]
