Kurt Schaefer has been a Republican member of the Missouri Senate since 2008. He represents the 19th district.

Education

Schaefer earned his BA in Geography from the University of Missouri in 1990. He went on to receive his JD/MA in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School in 1995.

Professional experience

Schaefer is Former Special Counsel to the Missouri Department of Agriculture and to the Governor. He has also been Former Deputy Director of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. In 1996 he was Adjunct Instructor of Agricultural Economics at the University of Missouri in 1996. He was also Assistant Attorney General/Special Prosecutor and Counsel for the Missouri Attorney General's Office from 1995 to 1999. He was Associate Attorney for Lathrop and Gage, L.C., from 1999 to 2005. Schaefer then worked as General Counsel/Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources from 2005 to 2007. He has been Partner of Lathrop and Gage, L.C., since 2007.
