This measure was defeated

  • NO 7,639 (58.56%)Defeatedd[1]

This measure was brought forth by a petition from residents who were opposed to the city annexing 50 acres of land from The Refuge Golf and Country Club in order to further develop it and help with costs. Local residents submitted 1,639 signatures to stop the ordinance which allowed for the annexation of the land. Residents noted the costs of having the city annex the land, officials noted how much this will cost to hold an election which would be mail only, around $138,000. Two lawsuits had also been filed against the annexation by homeowners with a third also in the works. City officials were unsure if the lawsuits would affect the annexation vote.[2]

The City Council announced that it would accept resident's arguments for or against this measure to publish in the official voter pamphlet for a fee of $100. Some residents noted that they would submit their arguments regardless of the fee in the hope that others would be able to better understand the issue.[3]
